Wii Pole Dancing?!?!?

A few weeks ago, Peekaboo Pole Dancing, the company behind the Carmen Electra pole dancing kit (the “Electra-pole”), announced that they are seeking a partner to license a pole dancing game for the Wii.

The announcement had many wondering, “Why?” According to Peekaboo, it’s all about… exercise.

Simon Kay, a rep for Peekaboo and licensing agency AT New Media via e-mail:

“Peekaboo will be all about fun and fitness for a new generation. Peekaboo wants to make the fitness benefits of aerobic pole dancing accessible to millions of Wii users. The goal is to encourage men and women of all shapes and sizes to improve their pole dancing skills while having fun, toning up and burning calories. Ultimately Peekaboo and AT New Media want to do for pole dancing what ‘Guitar Hero‘ did for rock n roll!”

Obese Man Sues Jail For Losing Weight

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — An inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge is suing the county, complaining he has lost more than 100 pounds because of the jailhouse menu.

Broderick Lloyd Laswell says he isn't happy that he's down to 308 pounds after eight months in the Benton County jail. He has filed a federal lawsuit complaining the jail doesn't provide inmates with enough food.

According to the suit, Laswell weighed 413 pounds when he was jailed in September. Police say he and a co-defendant fatally beat and stabbed a man, then set his home on fire.

"On several occasions I have started to do some exercising and my vision went blurry and I felt like I was going to pass out," Laswell wrote in his complaint. "About an hour after each meal my stomach starts to hurt and growl. I feel hungry again."

But Laswell then goes on to complain that he undertakes little vigorous activity.

"If we are in a small pod all day (and) do next to nothing for physical exercise, we should not lose weight," the suit says. "The only reason we lost weight in here is because we are literally being starved to death."

The suit also asks that the county be ordered to serve hot meals. The jail has served only cold food for years.

The meals, provided through Aramark Correctional Institution Services, average 3,000 calories a day, jail Capt. Hunter Petray told The Morning News of northwest Arkansas for a story Saturday.

Lungless Frog

image

Scientists have discovered this rare species of frogs called Barbourula kalimantanensis in Borneo, are completely lungless.

Living in clear, cold-water streams, the frog gets all its oxygen through its skin.

The amphibians are slightly more than two inches long, slippery and can swim surprisingly fast for short bursts.

A team of scientists made this discovery during a visit to a site many kilometres upstream from where the species was described from some 30 years ago. Dr Bickford, an evolutionary biologist, explained that they had not dissected the specimen back then, as there was no real reason to believe that they could be lungless. The evolution of lunglessness in four-limbed amphibians is exceedingly rare. The frog is also severely flat compared to other frogs and this would increase the surface area of the skin, allowing it to take in oxygen more efficiently.

A Transparent Clear Fish

image

Researchers at Children’s Hospital Boston have created a Zebra fish which is see-through, therefore allowing scientists to see all it’s major organs. The fish, which is genetically similar to humans, are good role models for human biology and the study of disease. At the moment the amphibian is being used in cancer treatment tests.
